Meta Open Arts

The summer of 2020 brought race, diversity, and inclusion to the forefront of our societies collective conversation. Our goal with the creation of 360 backgrounds was to make timely, culturally relevant content, so it made sense to launch an initiative to bring attention to artists of diverse backgrounds.

Client: Meta
Role: Art Director
2021-2022

I pitched Facebook’s Open Arts team, who curate the art on the companies campuses and do arts outreach outside the company, on the idea, and we designed a program to commission 7 artists to create backgrounds. Because background creation involved pretty specific technical chops, we partnered the artists with technical artists on my team, and photographers in their local areas to help them realize their visions. I worked closely with our comms and marketing teams to promote the project, including representing the company in multiple press interviews.
